Explain GIFT, ZIFT ,IUT and embryo transfer in brief
Answers
Answer:
Gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT) uses multiple eggs collected from the ovaries. The eggs are placed into a thin flexible tube (catheter) along with the sperm to be used. The gametes (both eggs and sperm) are then injected into the fallopian tubes using a surgical procedure called laparoscopy.
Zygote Intra Fallopian Transfer (ZIFT) uses multiple eggs collected from ovaries and mixed with sperms from male donor or partner, and allowed to fertilize the egg in vitro (in the test tube) which is transferred for development into the fallopian tube, for implantation etc.
Embryo Transfer is when eggs are fertilised by the sperms in vitro using AI or ISCI techniques and allowed to develop till the embryo stage, and transferred into the uterus for further development.
Explanation:
ZIFT and GIFT are done in females which can provide appropriate conditions for natural implantation into the uterus.
ET is used for female which cannot provide apt environment to the zygote to develop into the embryo. This is also done if there is an defect in the fallopian tube , like its diameter is too narrow, etc.
