Explain giving one example how highly reactive metals are extracted
Answers
Extraction of Metals of high reactivity. Metals of high reactivity; such as sodium, calcium, magnesium, aluminium, etc. are extracted from their ores by electrolytic reduction.
These metals cannot be reduced using carbon because carbon is less reactive than them.
Highly reactive metals such as potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, aluminium, etc.., are extracted from there ores by the process of electrolytic refining. Since these metals are highly reactive they cannot by reduced by carbon as it is less reactive.
For example:
Sodium metal is extracted by the process of electrolytic refinig of molten sodium chloride. W hen electric current is passed through molten sodium chloride, it decomposes to form sodium metal and chloride gas.
