Explain, giving reasons, whether the following sets of quantum numbers are possible or not.
i. n = 2, l = 1, ml= -1, ms= – ½
ii. n = 2, l = 1, ml= 0, ms= – ⅔
iii. n = 3, l = 2, ml= +3, ms = + ½

Answer:

Only 1 is possible

Explanation:

2 is not possible because spin quantum number can not be 3/2 , it is only +1/2or-1/2

3 is not possible because ml for value of l=2

can't be +3 , ml for value of l=2 can be -2,-1,0,+1,+2
