In the following ways the print culture developed in India:

1. By 1674, approximately fifty books had been published in Kannada and Konkani in languages.

2. The Dutch Protestant preachers by 1710 published 32 Tamil books; many of them were versions of classical works.

3. A few decades later, James Augustus Hickey began editing a weekly magazine called the Bengal Gazette.

4. By the 18th century, some of the Indians began publishing newspapers and journals.

5. The Bengal Gazette brought out by Gangadhar Bhattacharya, was first such to emerge.
