they are found at all the growing parts of the plant such as tips of roots ,stem.
chacterstics of meristematic tissue -
thick cell wall
large cellwall absence of vacoule 
actively dividing cell
types-
apical meristem -increases the large length of the root and stem.
intercalary meristem -they increases the length of nodes.
lateral meristem - they increases the diameter of the plant.
