Gully erosion is an advanced stage of rill erosion as rill erosion is an advanced stage of sheet erosion.It is the most spectacular form of erosion. Gully erosion is an extensive and generally intense form of soil erosion caused by the flowing of surface water. It involves open, uneven channels that have been cut more than 30 centimetres deep into the ground. Gully erosion is commonly found in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, West Bengal and Rajasthan. Gully erosion causes severe damage to agricultural lands, including soil loss, increase in surface runoff, lower soil water holding capacity and lower agricultural production.
