Explain H2 S is only a reducing agent where as SO2 is both oxidising as well as reducing agent.

The oxidation state of sulphur in h2s is -2 and in so2 is +4. The no minimum and maximum oxidation state of sulphur is -2 and +6. So for h2s it can only donate electrons but for SO2 it can it's oxidation number from +4 to -2 that is reduction or from +4 to +6 that is oxidation
