_____________________________________

In 1888, Hertz succeeded in experimentally confirming the existence of electromagnetic waves. By using oscillatory LC - Circuits, he not only produced and detected electromagnetic waves, but also demonstrated their properties of reflection , refraction , interference and polarisation and established beyond doubt that light radiation has wave nature. He was able to produce em waves of wavelength around 6 m.

In 1887 Hertz designed a brilliant set of experiments tested Maxwell's hypothesis. He used an oscillator made of polished brass knobs, each connected to an induction coil and separated by a tiny gap over which sparks could leap.
