The compound 2-chloro-3-methylbutane on treatment with alcoholic potash given 2-methyl but-2-ene in accordance with the Saytzeff rule.
- This reaction is termed as dehydrohalogenation.
- It is a β- elimination reaction.
- The chloride at 2- position is removed along with the hydrogen from the β- position according to the Saytzeff rule.
