A doctor's syringe is filled with medicine from a medicine bottle by the following way -

• At first we take the syringe and push the piston of the syringe to reach the extreme inside part of the syringe.

This expells all the air present in the hollow space of the syringe.

• Then the needle of the syringe is dipped into the liquid medicine.

The needle is actually a pipe with very small diameter.

• Now,when we pull the piston slowly, the liquid medicine is being filled in the hollow space of the syringe.

This happens because when we pull out the piston the hollow space wants to regain the air which was expelled during the pushing process.

Now,in the way of air inlet, the liquid comes and occupies. That's why instead of air,the medicine liquid is being filled in the syringe.
