Firstly, we should use fractional distillation. The apparatus is shown below in the attachment. The mixture of alcohol and water is in the flask. Boil the mixture with the Bunsen burner. The element with the least boiling point will rise up first as vapor. Later it passes on through the condenser where the temperature is cold. The vapor then turns back to liquid due to condensation. In this case, alcohol will rise first as vapor. Alcohol is later collected in the neck flask in the right hand side of the picture. This is how we separate alcohol and water.
