Amoeba has holozoic nutrition. The process through which Amoeba obtains and absorbs the nutrition from its food is called as phagocytosis.

Amoeba is a unicellular organism which takes in its food and absorbs the nutrition from the food.

● Amoeba senses its food present in the environment and then extends the pseudo podium around the food and engulfs the food within the cavity formed leading to complete engulfing of the food. This process of engulfing the food is called as ingestion.

● After ingestion comes the process of digestion which occurs when several enzymes present in the Amoeba acts upon the food particle and breaks down it into several smaller pieces.

● Then the food is absorbed into the cytoplasm of amoeba and afterwards the energy obtained from the food in the form of Nutrition is used by cytoplasm and this process is called as assimilation.

● The assimilated food is then removed out of the body of amoeba through the process called egestion.
