thier are three factors needed for a fire

oxygen
heat
fuel

by sparying co2 we cut the supply of o2 thier for fire stop buring in the apsence of o2....

in this way co2 help in control fires

Carbon dioxide being heavier than oxygen, covers the Fire like a blanket. send the contact between the fuel and oxygen is cut off the fire is controlled.


Carbon dioxide can be stored at high pressure as a liquid in cylinder when released from the cylinder carbon dioxide expand enormously in volume and cools down so it not only forms a blanket around the Fire, it also brings down the temperature of the fuel .

That is why it is an excellent fire extinguisher.
