Explanation:

chromosomes are the genetic material that are responsible for transfer of genotypic and phenotypic characters from one generation to another.

Chromosomes are made up of genes.Any change in the sequence of genes i.e. addition ,deletion, change .in gene causes mutation. This mutation is also carried to gametes and then to the offspring after fertilization of gametes and its embryo and hence to the organism.

This gradual changes over time for many years leads to a bigger change and shows different characters in an organism .Thus we say evolution has taken place.

I hope it helps..
