Cultivation practices and crop yield are related to environmental condition. The different crops and cultivation practices require different climatic conditions, temperature, photoperiod for their growth and completion of life cycle.

Environmental conditions include soil texture, quality, nutrition, landscape, water availability, climate etc. Environment plays a key role in crop production. Hence all agricultural practices have to be designed keeping this in mind. For example terrace farming can be done on hilly slopes only to bind the soil, it cannot be practiced on plains. Similarly irrigation methods chosen depends on underground water level, rainfall and crop requirement.
