Deforestation causes an increase in soil erosion....due to which the top fertile layer gets eroded.... and the lower hard and Rocky soil gets exposed...overtime continued soil erosion can erode this lower Rocky layer of soil which is however unfertile...this converts land into desert...this is called Desertification...
