Cellular DNA is the information source for making protein in the cell. A section of DNA that provides information for one protein is called the gene for that protein . genes are section or segments of DNA that are carried on the chromosomes and determine specific human characteristics such as height or hair colour.

Every gene encode for a particular protein that performs a particular functions . like in case if tallness of characteristics of a plant. that particular protein act as an enzyme which catalys as a particular metabolic pathway responsible for the increase in te height . if the plant have that gene it will produce that protein and is tall in hight but if a plant lack that gene , it will not produce an enzyme necessary for the metabolic pathway and have small height
