Sound waves enter the outer ear and travel through a narrow passageway called the ear canal, which leads to the eardrum. The eardrum vibrates from the incoming sound waves and sends these vibrations to three tiny bones in the middle ear. These bones are called the malleus, incus, and stapes.

Sound waves travel into the ear canal until they reach the eardrum. The eardrum passes the vibrations through the middle ear bones or ossicles into the inner ear. The inner ear is shaped like a snail and is also called the cochlea.  The sound wave passes through the ear canal to thin and stretched membrane called eardrum or tympanum. The ear drum vibrates and produces vibrations. The vibrations are amplified by the three bones of the middle ear called hammer, anvil and stirrup. That is how we hear.
