we can determine the intensity if the earthquake by the help of the seismograph
...... seismograph is the unit to measure the intensity if the earthquake

HEY FRND..
There are basically two ways in which we quantify the size of earthquakes: magnitude and intensity. You have probably heard of the Richter scale which is still used for small earthquakes, but most large earthquakes are now commonly reported using the moment magnitude scale
Let us have a look on each of them :-
=> Richter scale
In case of RICHTER SCALE magnitude is a measure of the amount of energy released during an earthquake, and you've probably heard news reports about earthquake magnitudes measured using the Richter scale.
=> Mercalli scale
This scale was used before the invention of Richter scale, but it was mechanical and was
invented by the Italian geologist Giuseppi Mercalli
=> Moment Magnitude Scale
Large earthquakes are not measured very well by the Richter scale, especially if the seimometers used are very far away from an earthquake epicenter. The moment magnitude scale is now most commonly used for medium to large earthquakes.
