blue green algae is able to fix atmospheric nitrogen from the atmosphere and enrich the nitrogen components in the soil and help to increase soil fertility.

Hey Siaka,

As we already know that BGA lie under the kingdom Monera and since BGA also include nitrogen fixing ones too, we can conclude that they increase fertility.

Now,

They are of various kinds,

- They decrease alkalinity of the soil.
       eg: Nostoc commune, Scytonema ocellatum

- They are used as manures
       eg: Anabaena, Spirulina

- Atmospheric nitrogen is converted to nitrogenous compunds.
    eg: oscillatoria
