With the application of lubricants, the fluid present in the lubricant fills up the tiny, tiny gaps and irregularities on the rough surface, making it smooth and thus, the body can slide over it with ease.

"We know that friction is a special type of force occurs when two objects or bodies in the relative motion.

When "two solids" "come into contact", "imperfections in the surface" interfere with "each other" and "resist slide by" their "shear strength". By applying lubricants or grease or dry lubricants, the "flow or roll" to "reduce shear forces" the result in friction. In the smooth metal surface, the friction is very low compared to the rough surface."
