If the intermolecular forces is less than the kinetic energy b/n the atoms are more because they collide with each other randomly and hence the physical state is must be of a gas while if the the intermolecular space is less the kinetic energy also became less because there is no space so that they collide hence the physical state must be of a liquid or a solid..
