Exchange of gases takes place between the alveoli of lungs and the surrounding blood capillaries. The two main gases exchanged are oxygen and carbon-dioxide.

hey...here is ur answer.....
breathing is the first step of respiration which involved exchange of gases between the air in the alveoli and the blood in the capillaries around the alveoli.......
in this exchange the blood takes up oxygen from the alveolar air and releases CO2 to the alveolar air......
such an exchange offers because the concentration of Co2 is more in the alveolar air ...
we know that O2 moves from higher concentration to lower concentration due to the process of diffusion.....
the blood has more concentration of CO2 as compared to alveolar air.
thus, the CO2 moves from blood to alveolar air due to the simple diffusion....
This exchange of gases is called external respiration and result in the oxygenation of blood the oxygenated blood then returns from the lung by pulmonary veins to the left side of the heart the heart supplies oxygenated blood to the body tissues......
the living cells perform oxidation of simple food to release energy
this is the process of aerobic respiration which utilises O2 and released CO2
the aerobic respiration occurs partly in the cytosol and partly in the mitochondria of cells .......this catabolic process is called cellular respiration and involves step by step breakdown of glucose..... thus , the cells and tissues consume O2 and release CO2 ....
the oxygen is supplied to the cells and tissues by the oxygenated blood that comes from lungs....
HERE THE EXCHANGE of gases occurs between the oxygenated blood and tissue cell.....
the concentration of O2 is more in the blood and less in the tissue cells......
so, the O2 moves from blood to the tissues by the physical process of diffusion ......
similarly , CO2 concentration is more in the tissues and less in the blood ....
so, the CO2 moves from tissues to the blood .....this process is internal respiration...... the blood now becomes deoxygenated .....
hope it helps you
