forests prevents flood y acting as a barrier against the flow of the water and since forests don't contain only a single tree there re many trees and all the trees have roots buried deep within the soil so they make the soil porous thus resulting in restoration of groundwater as their roots provides the water passage ways for the water to flow.

honestly speaking if the flood is way strong it can uproot the trees thus leading to chaos
