Galileo's astronomical observationshelped weaken the Ptolemaic modelby showing that the stars, planets, and the Sun do not revolve around the Earth through his observations of the phases of Venus, and the moons of Jupiter.

Galileo presented the strange astronomical orbit of the inner planets, namely  Mercury and Venus.

While observed from earth, they form an orbit of shape like 8.

It can be understood why the orbital of all planets are around the sun and not round the earth.Kepler became famous by establishing the earth's orbit as elliptical and not a perfectly circular.

Which irritated the Vatican:

How could a perfect God made earth on an orbit was not a perfect circle?

Galileo Galilei was the first person who really observed the planets physically with his telescope and discovered that Jupiter had several moons. Incidentally, those were,  later accepted as a time table to calculate the latitude by a seagoing vessel.
