Each of the two alleles you inherit for agene each may be strong ("dominant") or weak ("recessive"). When an allele is dominant, it means that the physical characteristic ("trait") it codes for usually is expressed, or shown, in the living organism. You need only one dominant allele to express a dominant trait.

genes are the functional segments of DNA...it is a part of chromosome which controls traits.
let me take pea plant as example to explain you....let me take the trait tall and dwarf
a section of dna provides information for 1 protein cell and called as genets protien work efficiently then trait get expressed in a better way...pea plant height depends upon amnt of growth hormone released by protein if protein is efficient more growth hormone will be released and plant is taller but if protein is inefficient then plant will be shorter thus through protien present in genes, genes control the traits....
