Within three days, without much resistance from the small Portuguese force, India liberated Goa. On December 19, 1961, Goa officially became part of India and two years later, held its first general election.Jul 2, 2007

This was also known as 'Liberation/Invasion of Goa'.
The process of annexation or merging was done in which territories of India that belonged to the Portugese such as the Goa, Daman and Diu were merged.
This brought about the end of Portugese rule in India( in around 1961) and these three merged states came under the military administration.
