In 1963, the Parliament of India passed the 12th Amendment Act to the Constitution of India, formally integrating the captured territories into the Indian Union. After the independence of Indian sub-continent, the Portuguese refused to leave Goa and didn't acknowledge the claim of the Indian government over Goa.
The Portuguese even attacked and fired on the Indian vessels and boats that passed by the Goan coast. This was not tolerated by the Indian Government and this they sent armed troops to rescue their territory from the hands of Portuguese.
As the Portuguese troops were small in number, they were easy to handle. On December 19, 1961, Goa became the part of India.
