The British levied heavy taxes on Indian goods as well as British made goods were cheaper.
In general, this also made people buy Britain made goods as well as Indian market declined.
Even the craftsmen left main town at the same time went to villages for livellihood.

Indian craftsmen worked and developed under the Indian rulers and nobles.With the coming of British and foreign powers in India,India rulers lost there power and Indian craftsmen lost out in the markets.There were many policies of the British that affected India not only in Craft but also in trade in foreign markets.
