The light travels through our lens and travels to the back of the eye, where we have the retina. The retina has rods and cone cells which interpret colour and depth respectively. The image formed on the retina is inverted and the signal goes to our brain through the opitc nerve. The brain inverts the image for us to make sense, and that is how we see the world.
