The coastline of India helps it from a long time in export and import of goods.
It makes a close contact with other countries from a long period of time by sea routes

India is a peninsula.(Peninsula-a piece of land that juts out into the sea, means it is surrounded by water on three sides). The Indian peninsula juts out into the Indian ocean for almost 1800 km.This has given the country, two almost equally long coastlines(The West coast and the East coast). The length of the West coast is around 3000 km.whereas the length of the East coast is around 2700 km.The west coast is longer because of the Kutch peninsula, and numerous coves, bays and embayments.Add to this the coastline of the Andaman & Nicobar archipelago and the Lakshadweep group of islands. The total length of the coastline of the mainland India is around 5700 km.,whereas the total length of India’s coastline(including those of islands) is 7500 km.That’s why India has a very long coastline.
