This physical and chemical decomposition is primarily done by wind, water, and climate. As a result of these processes, large rock pieces are converted into smaller pieces and eventually to soil. Living organisms such as lichens, insects, microorganisms make soil ready for the plants to grow. The growth of roots of plants further adds to the weathering of rocks and thus forms soil.
