Explain how is the knowledge of elasticity useful in selecting metal rope used in crane for lifting heavy loads

while constructing a crane used to lift loads, it is kept in mind that the extension of the rope does not exceed the elastic limit of rope.

To overcome the problem of bending under force the elastic behaviour of the material used must be considered primarily.

Knowledge of elasticity is useful in selecting a metal rope used in cranes for lifting loads as :

1.The metal rope used in a crane for lifting heavy loads should have a large modulus of elasticity so that it can withstand the heavy load to be lifted which can be as large as 1000kg .

2.Greater the elastic strength of the rope ,the more times it can be used and it's life is prolonged.
