Answer:

Liberty and Equality are complementary to each other: As stated by Frances Wright, “Equality is the soul of liberty, there is, in fact, no liberty without it”. In a democracy, equality is often witnessed in liberty, hence it can be said that “liberty and equality complement” each other.

Answer:

Liberty and equality along with fraternity are believed to be holy trinity in case of a democracy.

When you have liberty without equality in a society then that would lead to prevalence of inequality in that society. Some sections of the society will be exploited by others and coherent growth would not be seen. Hence, the purpose of democracy where all individuals remain relevant would be negated.

And if you have equality but no liberty then a person will not be allowed to do what he wills to, ultimately it will turn out to be something on lines of communist or dictated society, where everyone is equal but no one is free to pursue their dreams.

For this reason the two are said to be complementary.
