explain how mirages are formed?

It is caused by a change in the refractive index due to the high temperature near the road and the lower temperature above it. this is how the mirage forms.

Mirages happen when the ground is very hot and the air is cool. The hot ground warms Layer of air just above the ground. When the light moves through the cold air and into the layer of hot air it is reflected.
