In this analysis and discussion activity, students learn about the similarities and differences between aerobic cellular respiration and anaerobic fermentation and learn how these processes contribute to ATP production in muscle cells during different types of athletic activity. In addition, students gain understanding of general principles such as the conservation of energy and conservation of matter, the constant dynamic activity in cells, and the importance of interactions between body systems to accomplish functions such as supplying the energy that muscles need for physical activity. The first attached file has the Student Handout and the second attached file has the Teacher Notes. The Teacher Notes provide background information and instructional suggestions and explain how this activity is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards.

When we consume food it is in form of complex carbohydrate, once it undergoes the process of digestion it turns into glucose ( C6H12O6 ).That glucose with help of (respiration ) oxygen gets converted into energy and that energy is sent to all parts of body. Our brain consumes 20% of the total energy consumption of whole body.
EQUATION:-
          C6H12O6  +  O2  = HEAT ENERGY  AND CO2
