Answer:
Napoleon rose to power in 1804, with the help of the political climate of the time, and his character: educated, charismatic, and ambitious.
His timing was crucial in his rise to power. On May 5, 1789, the French Revolution started. The fall of Toulon, also known as the siege of Toulon, from August 28 to December 19, 1793, helped Napoleon win fame in the military. In November 1795 the Directory was established, and Napoleon defended the Directory, which led him to be seen as a hero. Consequently, he became commander in chief of the French army, and he succeeded as commander in chief of the French army by moving big armies quickly and taking big risks, that could’ve caused big losses, but with his luck, worked out.The Egyptian campaign further developed his fame.
Finally, on November 9–10, 1799, the Brumaire coup overthrew the Directory, which was replaced by the Consulate. This also marked the end of the French Revolution. In August 1802, Napoleon declared himself First Consul for Life. As a ruler, Napoleon was a dictator; tyrannical and autocratic.
Additionally, Napoleon’s personality and military genius were an enormous factor in his rise to power. He was a student at the military academy at Brienne, which made him well educated, and, while he was there, he was made fun of for his accent, which is widely believed to have made him ambitious and determined to succeed. Napoleon was also very charismatic, which was extremely helpful to him, as it allowed him to get close to people in power.
