hey friend
when gamete formation takes place whether egg or sperm the chromosome number gets half i.e 46 --->23 chromosomes
so when xx or xy chromosome form a zygote
the chromosome number become 2 times
I.e 2 x 23 = 46
so offspring and parent have same number of chromosomes.
