When a sound is made.. Then out side part or the ear pinna will direct the sound into the ear drum through the external auditory canal. When the sound wave touches the ear drum or tympanic membrane it starts vibrating and then the vibration spread to the 3 small bones near to the ear drum which are malleus incus and stapes and called ossicles.. This ossicles in the middle ear amplify the sound a little.
This vibration of ossicles reaches the inner ear thorough the oval window and reach the cochlea which is known as the organ of hearing. There are inner hair cells and outer hair cells in the inner ear and it picks up the sound and then transfer to the brain through the 8th cranial nerve known as the vestibulocochlear nerve and then auditory area in the Brian analyse sound and there by we hear and understand the sound.
