Politicians have exploited the poverty of rag pickers of Semmapuri for many years. They provided them ration cards and voter identification cards in order to get their votes; but they have not done much to improve their condition. Life conditions are not very good here. There are hardly any civic amenities such as sewage, drinking water, decent homes, schools, hospital, etc. available there. They do rag-picking for their survival. Young children who should have been studying at schools, are forced to scavenge garbage mounds of garbage. The Government must have looked into their plight and provided for them the basic amenities.
