Poverty became a feature of the urban sector because-

1. The urbanization of the cities was a major pull factor of migration which attracted the rural population to shift. Excessive shifting of population led to a shortage of lands and other required natural resources.

2. Generation of jobs is at a lower rate than the growing population. Overpopulation is a major factor to increase poverty.

3. Lack of jobs and backward industries are unable to create sufficient employment.

4. Domination of technological intensive methods is decreasing employment opportunities.

5. Social indifferences and inconsistent distribution of income are making the rich richer and the poor poorer.

6. Health conditions can be a factor to hinder work.
