The retina is a delicate membrane which contains enormous number of light-sensitive cells called Rods and Cons. These cells get activated upon illumination and generate electric signals. These signals are sent to the brain via the optic nerves and the brain interprets these signals and processes the information so that we perceive objects as they are.
