I just want to point this out. There are explanations given for a world wide flood scenario. There is a belief that there was a water vapor/mist that cloaked the entire earth. It is believed that this vapor/mist was pretty much a layer of water suspended in the atmosphere. This would also explain why there was such a moist warm climate back then. In Genesis, it is said that God opened up the flood gates of heaven to cause the great deluge. This large amount of water would have fell to earth and flooded it. This would also account for why carbon dating says that the earth is billions of years old (the Carbon would have been exposed to the water, which would have altered it. A further example of carbon dating being skewed by similar events would be the Eruption of Mount St. Helena. Samples from the eruption were Carbon dated, and the results said it was millions of years old due to the Carbon half life). At the moment, I can't give you an exemplary explanation for how the water would have subsided in a scientific way (I would reason that it had something to do with a cooling effect ex: an Ice Age, but I haven't researched it enough). I would say that God would have most likely helped in the speed up of evaporation and allowed for the start of an Ice Age (believing that God was in control and speeding up evaporation is enough for me), but I know that many people want some "tangible" scientific reason, which (aside from a change to a cooler climate) I can not give at the moment.

On a side note: I had the pleasure of doing some trekking in the Canadian Rockies this past summer, and saw some interesting examples of a sea floor, shells, and trochlobites at the top of a few mountains.

This is a stone with ripples made while underwater.
