There are five main modes of seed dispersal: gravity, wind, ballistic, water, and by animals. Some plants are serotinous and only disperse their seeds in response to an environmental stimulus. Dispersal involves the letting go or detachment of a diaspore from the main parent plant.

Example:- In hydrochory, the seeds are dispersed by the help of water as vector. Many species of hydrophytes and terrestrial plants depend on hydrochory because their fruits are waterproof. For example, water lily.

Many plants depend on animals for their seed dispersal this condition is called as zoochory. These plants develop special adaptations such as spines, hairs, mucus and variety of hooks to attach to the body of animals e.g., Trifolium angustifolium.

Answer:

Sample Response: Seeds travel in several different ways. They can travel in the wind, like a dandelion does, or in water, like a coconut does. Seeds also travel with the help of animals. For example, squirrels collect and hide nuts, while birds carry seeds on their beaks or feet. Birds also eat seeds and drop them in a new location. Some seeds get stuck on animal fur or on people’s clothing.
