Sewasadan published in 1916 lifted the Hindi novels from the realms of fantasy, moralizing and simple entertainment to a serious reflection on the lives of ordinary people and social issues. Sewasadan deals mainly with the poor condition of women in society. Issues like child marriage and dowry. It also tells us about the ways in which the Indian upper classes used whatever little opportunities they got from colonial authorities to govern themselves.

in early times the hindi novels mainly dealt with  fantasy and superficial things.  for eg devaki nandan's chandrakanta was a romantic novel with a dazzling effect of fantasy.premchand lifted the hindi novels from the realm of fantasy by writing about the things in domestic life.he first wrote in urdu and later shifted to hindi remaining as aa influential writer in both the languages .he paid attention to the contemporary settings of life.his novels prove this statement
his novel sevasadan deals with the problems faced by women in the society.social issues like child marriage etc are woven into the novel.
it also tells us about the traditional high caste people who takes whatever oppurtunity they get to govern themselves
