エn asexual reproduction, variations are introduced only at the time of DNA replication when cells divide. But in sexual reproduction, variations are introduced due to:

  • Errors or mutual ations introduced during DNA replication.

  • Exchange of genes by crossing over during meiosis at the time of gamete formation.

  • Chance separation of homologous chromosomes during gamete formation.

  • Chance union of male and female gametes at the time of fertilization.
