Soils are formed from rocks. When rainwater gets collected in pores (small holes) they crack the rocks in a number of pieces. This is known as weathering of rocks. After this microbes act on these small chunks of rocks and make them more small. These pieces of rocks gradually form rocks.

Soil is the thin layer of material covering the earth's surface and is formed from the weathering of rocks. It is made up mainly of mineral particles, organic materials, air, water and living organisms—all of which interact slowly yet constantly.
