Total internal reflection occurs when light is incident from denser to rarer medium
So the inner surface of the optical fiber is made of hight refractive material and it's coating is of lesser refractive index material
So that TIR can occur
Now the signal to be sent is incident on the inner surface of optical fiber such that it is greater than critical angle
Due to which TIR occurs at boundary and signal do not escape and gets reflected
