• There are five main stages of digestion in our body. They are done in our body from the mouth till to the large intestine.
• The whole canal from the mouth to the anus is called as Alimentary canal. The food transports all over these parts while digestion of food.

Stages of digestion :-

$\bigstar$ Ingestion :-

• The process in which we consume food and swallow it is called as ingestion. There are three main parts involved in this stage. They are the salivary glands, teeth and the tongue.
• The salivary glands have a fluid which is used to convert the sugar into starch. These glands provide saliva to convert into starch.
• The teeth are main organ in ingestion which is used to bite food. These convert the bigger particles into smaller ones.
• The tongue helps in mixing the food with the saliva.

$\bigstar$ Digestion :-

• The chewed food transports to the stomach through the oesophagus. The stomach digests the food further with the help of some digestive juices.
• The liver produces the bile juice that is used to digest the fatty foods. This is also called as digestive juice.
• The pancreas produces the pancreatic juice that helps in digestion of sugars, starch etc.

$\bigstar$ Absorption :-

• The nutrients should be pàssed over all the cells and the blood vessels. This method is used for the same.
• The nutrients pàss through the small intestine and also travels through blood.

$\bigstar$ Assimilation :-

• The small intestine has some finger like structures on it's inner wall which is called as villi. It also has some small substances called as microvilli.
• The main function of these is to make the space in the small intestine so that the absorbed nutrients can pàss through it.

• The undigested food passes to the large intestine like water and salt. These are the waste materials which are needed to removed from body.
• So, the large intestine converts the undigested food into faeces and it passes through the rectum and anus.
