we know that the element sodium has atomic number 11 so its electronic configuration would be 281 and since it has one electron in its outermost shell so it is monovalent and because it has a tendency to lose one electron it would be read the difficult for him to gain 7 more electron to complete its ok take that is why it insists on losing one electron and thus by losing 1 electron it becomes a positive c a t i o n
